Ogallala City is a city located in the Keith County, Nebraska, United States. In 2000, the population was 4930. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 4429, It is the 35th largest by population in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The city extends throughout a territory of 3.41 sq mi (8.83 sq km ), of which, 3.35 square miles (8.68 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, making it Nebraska's 27th largest by total area. It is ranks 15 in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4930 people, 2052 households, and 1339 families living in the city. The population density was 1472.4 people per square mile (568.5/kmē), making it the 146th most densely populated city in Nebraska. There were 2314 housing units at an average density of 690.7 per square mile (266.68/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the city the population was spread out, with 26.5% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85 males.
