Oelwein City, Fayette County, Iowa is a city located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 6692 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 6082, It is the 53rd largest by population in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is spread over 4.84 mi˛ (12.54 sq km), of which, 4.79 square miles (12.41 sq km ) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 sq km) of it is water, making it the 72nd largest by size in Iowa.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6692 residents, 2808 households, and 1819 families in the city. The population density was 1395.8 people per square mile (538.92/km˛), it is Iowa's 151st most densely populated city.
