The census designated place has a population of 10496 as per the 2000 census data. making it the 114th most populous in Maryland. It covers total area of 9.3 mi˛ (24.09 sq km), of which, 6.78 square miles (17.56 sq km) of it is land and 2.52 square miles (6.53 sq km) of it is water, it is the 66th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 15 in the size of its inland waterways in Maryland.
