Oakland County is a county in the United States of Michigan. As of 2000 the population was 1194156. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 1202174, making it Michigan's second largest county. It has total area of 908 miē (2351.71 kmē), of which, 872.51 square miles (2259.79 kmē) of it is land and 35.49 square miles (91.92 kmē) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1194156 people, 471115 households, and 315392 families residing in the county. The population density was 1368.6 people per square mile (528.42/kmē), giving it the third most densely populated county among the Michigan. There were 492006 housing units at an average density of 563.9 per square mile (217.72/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 people, and the average family size was 3.09 people. The population's age distribution was 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1202174, The racial makeup of the county was 80.26% White, 12.57% Black or African American, 0.28% American Indian, 5.49% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 1.37% from two or more races.
