Nye County, Nevada


Nye County is a one of the county from Nevada's 17 counties, located in Western Region (Mountain) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 32485 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 44375 in July 2008, making it Nevada's seventh largest county. Its area is just over 18158.73 sq mi (47030.89 square kilometre), of which, 18146.66 square miles (46999.63 square kilometre) of it is land and 12.07 square miles (31.26 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Nevada's largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 32485 people in the county, organized into 13309 households, and 9068 families living in the county. The population density was 1.8 people per square mile (0.69/kmē), it is Nevada's ninth most densely populated county. There were 15934 housing units at an average density of 0.9 per square mile (0.35/kmē). The average household size was 2.42 people, and the average family size was 2.9 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.7% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 24% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 105.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.7 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 44375, The racial makeup of the county was 40801 White, 1086 Black or African American, 754 American Indian, 634 Asian, 171 Native Hawaiian, and 929 from two or more races.
