Nowata City, Nowata County, Oklahoma is a city located in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The city has a population of 3971 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 3996 in July 2008, It is the 86th most populous in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The city extends throughout a territory of 3.1 mi˛ (8.03 sq km ), it is the 238th largest by area in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3971 people in the city, organized into 1622 households, and 1027 families living in the city. The population density was 1280.5 people per square mile (494.4/km˛), making its Oklahoma's 99th most densely populated city. There were 1853 housing units at an average density of 597.7 per square mile (230.77/km˛). The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.96. In the Nowata City, 25.6% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.2% were 18 to 24, 22.9% were 25 to 44, 21.6% were 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.7 males.
