Norwich City, Connecticut is a city of the New London County, Connecticut, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 36117 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 36388, giving it the 18th largest population among Connecticut. It is spread over 29.48 mi˛ (76.35 sq km), of which, 28.33 square miles (73.37 sq km ) of it is land and 1.14 square miles (2.95 sq km) of it is water, it is the eighth largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 17 in the size of its inland waterways in Connecticut.

As of the census of 2000, there were 36117 residents, 15091 households, and 9074 families in the city. The population density was 1274.7 people per square mile (492.16/km˛), it is the 65th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. There were 16600 housing units at an average density of 586 per square mile (226.26/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.34 persons, and the average family size was 2.96 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 24.1% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males. The median age of the city's population was 36.9 years, the median age of male residents at 35.5 and the median age of female residents at 38.3. The racial makeup of the city was 30029 White, 2469 Black or African American, 437 American Indian, 758 Asian, 10 Native Hawaiian, 1416 from two or more races and 998 Ohter races.
