Norwalk City is one of the city of Fairfield County, Connecticut, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 82951 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 83185, giving it the sixth largest population among Connecticut. The city comprises an area of 36.33 mi˛ (94.09 sq km), of which, 22.81 square miles (59.08 sq km) of it is land and 13.53 square miles (35.04 sq km) of it is water, it is the fifth largest by area in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Connecticut.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 82951 residents, 32711 households, and 20963 families in the city. The population density was 3637.3 people per square mile (1404.37/km˛), it is the 14th most populated city in terms of population density. There were 33753 housing units at an average density of 1479.7 per square mile (571.32/km˛). The average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3.1 persons. In the Norwalk City, 22.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 7% were 18 to 24, 35.5% were 25 to 44, 22.6% were 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males. The median age is 36.6 years, the median age of male residents at 35.3 and the median age of female residents at 38. The racial makeup of the city was 61339 White, 12663 Black or African American, 174 American Indian, 2699 Asian, 40 Native Hawaiian, 2445 from two or more races and 3591 Ohter races.
