Northport City is one of the city of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 19435 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 23118, It is the 27th most populous in the U.S. state of Alabama. Its area is just over 14.85 mi˛ (38.46 square kilometre), of which, 14.63 square miles (37.89 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.22 square miles (0.57 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 82nd largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19435 people, 7844 households, and 5255 families residing in the city. The population density was 1328.3 people per square mile (512.86/km˛), it is the 29th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Alabama. There were 8509 housing units at an average density of 581.6 per square mile (224.56/km˛). The average household size was 2.41 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.9% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.6 males. The median age of the city's population was 34.8 years, The median age of males was 33.1 years, for females the median age was 36.1 years. The racial makeup of the city was 13820 White, 5058 Black or African American, 37 American Indian, 155 Asian, 30 Native Hawaiian, 136 from two or more races and 199 Ohter races.
