Northampton County, North Carolina is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the county was 22086 as per the 2000 census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 20487, It is the 21st smallest in terms of population. It covers total area of 550.61 square miles (1426.07 square kilometre), of which, 536.48 square miles (1389.48 square kilometre) of it is land and 14.13 square miles (36.6 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 36th largest by size in North Carolina.
