North Tonawanda City is a one of the Niagara County, New York, located in Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 33262. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 31222, making it New York's 33rd largest. Its area is just over 10.94 miē (28.33 kmē), of which, 10.1 square miles (26.16 kmē) of it is land and 0.84 square miles (2.18 kmē) of it is water, it is the 53rd largest by area in the U.S. state of New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 33262 people, 13671 households, and 8987 families residing in the city. The population density was 3293.2 people per square mile (1271.51/kmē), it is 237th most densely populated city in New York. There were 14425 housing units at an average density of 1428.2 per square mile (551.43/kmē). The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.03. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males. The median age was 38.4 years, the median age of male residents at 36.8 and the median age of female residents at 39.9. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 97.86% White, 0.29% Black or African American, 0.34% American Indian, 0.53% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, 0.68% from two or more races and 0.29% Other races.
