North Dakota is a state of the United States. North Dakota had an official population of 642200 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 641481, It is the fourth least populous in the U.S. state of America. The state has a total area of 70699.79 mi˛ (183111.62 square kilometre), of which, 68975.93 square miles (178646.84 square kilometre) of it is land and 1723.86 square miles (4464.78 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 19th largest by total area among United States.

As of the census of 2000, there were 642200 people, 257152 households, and 166150 families living in the state. The population density was 9.3 people per square mile (3.59/km˛), it is the fourth least populated state in terms of population density. There were 289677 housing units at an average density of 4.2 per square mile (1.62/km˛). The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3. In the state the population was spread out, with 25% under the age of 18, 11.4% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. The median age is 36.2 years, the median age of male residents at 34.8 and the median age of female residents at 37.5. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the state is 642200, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 593181 White, 3916 Black or African American, 31329 American Indian, 3606 Asian, 230 Native Hawaiian, 7398 from two or more races and 2540 Ohter races.
