In the state the population was spread out, with 25% under the age of 18, 11.4% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. The median age is 36.2 years, the median age of male residents at 34.8 and the median age of female residents at 37.5. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the state is 642200, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 593181 White, 3916 Black or African American, 31329 American Indian, 3606 Asian, 230 Native Hawaiian, 7398 from two or more races and 2540 Ohter races.

The median income for a family in the state was $43654, it is the 13th lowest state by median family income in the U.S. state of America. The per capita income for the state was $17769, it is United States's ninth poorest state by per capita income. The median income was $18550, Median income for males is $23714, compared with $14273 for females. The Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates that the total GDP in 2008 was $31.2 billion, making it the second poorest state by gross domestic product among the United States. Per capita personal income in 2008 was $37832.
In 2000, 179667 pupils and students, of which 50.79% are male and 49.21% are female, 27.98% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 4.86% nursery or pri school, 4.81% kindergarten, 41.03% elementary school, 23.13% high school and 26.16% College graduate school.
