For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. The median age is 35.3 years, the median age of male residents at 33.8 and the median age of female residents at 36.7. The July 2008 population estimate is 8049313, The racial makeup of the state was 72.11% White, 21.59% Black or African American, 1.24% American Indian, 1.41% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 1.28% from two or more races and 2.32% Other races.

The median income for a family in the state was $46335, it would be the 31st highest state by median family income in the U.S. state of America. The per capita income for the state was $20307, making it the 28th wealthiest state by per capita income among the United States. The median income of state was $22276, The median income for males was $26812 versus $18619 for females. The Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates that the total GDP in 2008 was $400.2 billion, it is the ninth wealthiest state in terms of gross domestic product. Per capita personal income in 2008 was $35719.
In 2000, 2043225 pupils and students, of which 49.63% are male and 50.37% are female, 25.38% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 6.62% nursery or pri school, 5.61% kindergarten, 44.69% elementary school, 20.45% high school and 22.62% College graduate school.
