North Carolina


North Carolina is a one of the state, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the state was 8049313 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 9222414, It is the 11th most populous in the U.S. state of America. It is spread over 53818.51 miē (139389.3 kmē), of which, 48710.88 square miles (126160.6 kmē ) of it is land and 5107.63 square miles (13228.7 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 28th largest by total area in United States. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in United States.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8049313 residents, 3132013 households, and 2158869 families in the state. The population density was 165.2 people per square mile (63.78/kmē), making its United States's 17th most densely populated state. There were 3523944 housing units at an average density of 72.3 per square mile (27.92/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 2.98 persons. In the state Population was distributed with 24.4% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 12% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. The median age is 35.3 years, the median age of male residents at 33.8 and the median age of female residents at 36.7. The July 2008 population estimate is 8049313, The racial makeup of the state was 72.11% White, 21.59% Black or African American, 1.24% American Indian, 1.41% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 1.28% from two or more races and 2.32% Other races.
