Nome City is a city located in the Nome Census Area, Alaska, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 3505 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 3576, It is 25th most populous in Alaska. It has total area of 21.6 mi˛ (55.94 square kilometre), of which, 12.53 square miles (32.45 square kilometre) of it is land and 9.07 square miles (23.49 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 181st largest by area in the U.S. state of Alaska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3505 people, 1184 households, and 750 families living in the city. The population density was 279.7 people per square mile (107.99/km˛), making it the 30th most densely populated city in Alaska. There were 1356 housing units at an average density of 108.2 per square mile (41.78/km˛). The average household size was 2.79 people, and the average family size was 3.45 people. In the city Age distribution was 31.9% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 115.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 117.8 males. The median age of the city's population was 32.4 years, the median age of male residents at 32.8 and the median age of female residents at 32.2. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 37.89% White, 0.86% Black or African American, 51.04% American Indian, 1.54% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, 8.19% from two or more races and 0.43% Other races.
