Nicholas County is a county in the United States of Kentucky. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 6813 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6811, It is the sixth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It covers total area of 196.85 mi˛ (509.84 square kilometre), of which, 196.61 square miles (509.22 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 14th smallest by total area in Kentucky.

The population density was 34.7 people per square mile (13.4/km˛), giving it the 22nd least densely populated county among the Kentucky. There were 3051 housing units at an average density of 15.5 per square mile (5.98/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 106.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 111.9 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6811, The racial makeup of the county was 98.33% White, 0.9% Black or African American, 0.25% American Indian, 0.12% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.41% from two or more races.
