Niantic Cdp is a census designated place located in New London County, Connecticut, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. Niantic Cdp had an official population of 3085 in 2000. It is the 68th most populous in the U.S. state of Connecticut. Its area is just over 3.53 square miles (9.14 square kilometre), of which, 1.46 square miles (3.78 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.07 square miles (5.36 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 64th largest by area in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Connecticut.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 3085 people, 1404 households, and 836 families living in the census designated place. The population density was 2110.3 people per square mile (814.79/kmē), making its Connecticut's 38th most densely populated census designated place. There were 1756 housing units at an average density of 1202.7 per square mile (464.37/kmē). The average household size was 2.2 persons, and the average family size was 2.81 persons. In the Niantic Cdp, 20.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.9% were 18 to 24, 29% were 25 to 44, 27% were 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 or older.
