Newton County is a county located in the United States of Arkansas. In 2000, the population was 8608. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8298, making it Arkansas's sixth smallest county. The county encompasses an area of 823.18 square miles (2132.03 sq km ), of which, 822.97 square miles (2131.48 sq km) of it is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 sq km) of it is water, it is the 16th largest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

The population density was 10.5 people per square mile (4.05/kmē), it is the second least populated county in terms of population density. There were 4316 housing units at an average density of 5.2 per square mile (2.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.44 people, and the average family size was 2.94 people. In the county Population was distributed with 24.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 25% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.6 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 8298, The racial makeup of the county was 8081 White, 37 Black or African American, 51 American Indian, 13 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 115 from two or more races.
