Newport City is a city located in Orleans County, Vermont, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. The city has a population of 5005 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 5148 in July 2008, It is 13th most populous in Vermont. It is spread over 7.62 square miles (19.74 sq km), of which, 6.03 square miles (15.62 sq km ) of it is land and 1.59 square miles (4.12 sq km) of it is water, giving it the ninth largest by total area among Vermont. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Vermont.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5005 people in the city, organized into 2086 households, and 1192 families living in the city. The population density was 830 people per square mile (320.46/kmē), making it the 31st most densely populated city in Vermont.
