Newport City, Kentucky


Newport City is one of the city of Campbell County, Kentucky, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 17048 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 15766, making it Kentucky's 24th largest. Its area is just over 2.97 sq mi (7.69 square kilometre), of which, 2.72 square miles (7.04 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.25 square miles (0.65 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 143rd largest by total area among Kentucky.

As of the census of 2000, there were 17048 people, 6975 households, and 4048 families residing in the city. The population density was 6267.8 people per square mile (2420.01/kmē), it is the eighth most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Kentucky. There were 7828 housing units at an average density of 2877.9 per square mile (1111.16/kmē). The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.1. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 26.4% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males. The median age is 32.9 years, The median age of males was 31.9 years, for females the median age was 33.9 years. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 15628 White, 937 Black or African American, 49 American Indian, 67 Asian, 6 Native Hawaiian, 246 from two or more races and 115 Ohter races.
