The city encompasses an area of 39.85 square miles (103.21 kmē ), of which, 14.78 square miles (38.28 kmē) of it is land and 25.07 square miles (64.93 kmē) of it is water, making it California's 54th largest by total area. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in California.
