The county extends throughout a territory of 647.28 sq mi (1676.45 square kilometre ), of which, 630.77 square miles (1633.69 square kilometre) of it is land and 16.51 square miles (42.76 square kilometre) of it is water, making it South Carolina's 25th largest county by total area.
