Newaygo City is a one of the Newaygo County, Michigan, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 1670. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1626, making it Michigan's 350th largest. The city comprises an area of 3.47 square miles (8.99 square kilometre), of which, 3.33 square miles (8.62 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.14 square miles (0.36 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 217th largest by total area in Michigan.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1670 people, 620 households, and 450 families residing in the city. The population density was 501.2 people per square mile (193.51/kmē), giving it the 108th least densely populated city among the Michigan. There were 707 housing units at an average density of 212.3 per square mile (81.97/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.69 persons, and the average family size was 3.16 persons. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 33.1% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.9 males.
