New Salem City is a city located in the Morton County, North Dakota, United States. It is home to over 938 people (2000 census). In July 2008, its estimated population was 862, It is 61st most populous in North Dakota. The city comprises an area of 1.46 square miles (3.78 square kilometre), of which, 1.45 square miles (3.76 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 60th largest by size in North Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 938 people, 411 households, and 246 families residing in the city. The population density was 649 people per square mile (250.58/kmē), it is North Dakota's 138th most densely populated city.
