New Mexico


New Mexico is one of the state of United States, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The population of the state was 1819046 as per the 2000 census data. The state's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1984356, making it the 15th least populous in United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the state has a total area of 121589.48 mi˛ (314915.31 sq km), of which, 121355.53 square miles (314309.38 sq km) of it is land and 233.96 square miles (605.95 sq km) of it is water, it is the fifth largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1819046 residents, 677971 households, and 466515 families in the state. The population density was 15 people per square mile (5.79/km˛), it would be the sixth least densely populated state in the U.S. state of America. There were 780579 housing units at an average density of 6.4 per square mile (2.47/km˛). The average household size was 2.63 people, and the average family size was 3.18 people. In the state the population was spread out, with 28% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.4 females. The median age is 34.6 years, The median age of males was 33.4 years, for females the median age was 35.6 years. Its population was estimated at 1819046 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the state was 66.75% White, 1.89% Black or African American, 9.54% American Indian, 1.06% Asian, 0.08% Native Hawaiian, 3.65% from two or more races and 17.04% Other races.
