New Madrid County is one of the 115 county of Missouri, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 19760 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 17589, It is the 62nd most populous county in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county extends throughout a territory of 698.02 sq mi (1807.86 square kilometre ), of which, 678.01 square miles (1756.04 square kilometre) of it is land and 20.01 square miles (51.83 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Missouri's 32nd largest county by total area. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Missouri.
