New Kent County is a United States county located in the United States of Virginia. As of 2000 the population was 13462. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 17825, giving it the 83rd largest population among Virginia's county. It has total area of 223.48 square miles (578.81 kmē), of which, 209.55 square miles (542.73 kmē) of it is land and 13.93 square miles (36.08 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 88th largest by total area in Virginia.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 13462 people, 4925 households, and 3897 families living in the county. The population density was 64.2 people per square mile (24.79/kmē), it is Virginia's 87th most densely populated county. There were 5203 housing units at an average density of 24.8 per square mile (9.58/kmē). The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 2.97. In the county the population was spread out, with 25% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 32% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 100.1 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 17825, The racial makeup of the county was 14606 White, 2646 Black or African American, 188 American Indian, 123 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 260 from two or more races.
