New Haven County is one of the 8 county of Connecticut, located towards the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. The population of the county was 824008 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 846101 in July 2008, It is third most populous county in Connecticut. It has total area of 862.02 square miles (2232.62 square kilometre), of which, 605.64 square miles (1568.6 square kilometre) of it is land and 256.38 square miles (664.02 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the second largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Connecticut.

As of the census of 2000, there were 824008 people in the county, organized into 319040 households, and 210687 families living in the county. The population density was 1360.6 people per square mile (525.33/kmē), it would be the second most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Connecticut. There were 340732 housing units at an average density of 562.6 per square mile (217.22/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 persons, and the average family size was 3.08 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.5% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 112.7 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 846101, The racial makeup of the county was 690063 White, 110253 Black or African American, 3190 American Indian, 29386 Asian, 620 Native Hawaiian, and 12589 from two or more races.
