Its population was estimated at 1315809 in July 2008, It is the tenth smallest in terms of population. The state comprises an area of 9349.94 sq mi (24216.23 kmē), of which, 8968.1 square miles (23227.27 kmē) of it is land and 381.84 square miles (988.96 kmē) of it is water, makes it the fifth smallest by total area in United States.
