New Britain City is a United States city located in the Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. In 2000, the population was 71538. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 70486, It is the eighth most populous in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It has total area of 13.4 square miles (34.71 sq km), of which, 13.34 square miles (34.55 sq km) of it is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 sq km) of it is water, it is the 25th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 71538 people in the city, organized into 28558 households, and 16942 families residing in the city. The population density was 5364 people per square mile (2071.05/kmē), it is Connecticut's fifth most densely populated city.
