Nebraska is a state located in , in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 1711263. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1783432, It is United States's 13th smallest by population . It is spread over 77353.73 sq mi (200345.24 sq km), of which, 76872.41 square miles (199098.63 sq km ) of it is land and 481.31 square miles (1246.59 sq km) of it is water, making it the 16th largest by size in United States.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1711263 people, 666184 households, and 443411 families residing in the state. The population density was 22.3 people per square mile (8.61/kmē), making it the ninth least densely populated state in United States. There were 722668 housing units at an average density of 9.4 per square mile (3.63/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the state the population was spread out, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males. The median age of the state's population was 35.3 years, the median age of male residents at 34 and the median age of female residents at 36.6. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1711263, The racial makeup of the state was 1533261 White, 68541 Black or African American, 14896 American Indian, 21931 Asian, 836 Native Hawaiian, 23953 from two or more races and 47845 Ohter races.
