In the state the population was spread out, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.6 males. The median age of the state's population was 35.3 years, the median age of male residents at 34 and the median age of female residents at 36.6. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1711263, The racial makeup of the state was 1533261 White, 68541 Black or African American, 14896 American Indian, 21931 Asian, 836 Native Hawaiian, 23953 from two or more races and 47845 Ohter races.
The median income for a household in the state was $39250, it is the 31st wealthiest state in terms of median household income. The median income for a family in the state was $48032, it would be the 28th highest state by median family income in the U.S. state of America. The per capita income for the state was $19613, making it the 33rd wealthiest state by per capita income among the United States. The median income was $21195, Males had a median income of $26209 versus $16519 for females. The Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates that the total GDP in 2008 was $83.3 billion, it is 15th poorest state by gross domestic product in United States. Per capita personal income in 2008 was $37326.
In 2000, 480705 pupils and students, of which 49.99% are male and 50.01% are female, 28.09% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 6.32% nursery or pri school, 5.26% kindergarten, 42.54% elementary school, 22.52% high school and 23.36% College graduate school.
