Nantucket County is a county located in Massachusetts, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. In 2000, the population was 9520. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 11215, It is the least populous county in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The county comprises an area of 303.64 square miles (786.42 kmē), of which, 47.81 square miles (123.83 kmē) of it is land and 255.83 square miles (662.6 kmē) of it is water, it is the second smallest by area in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9520 people, 3699 households, and 2106 families residing in the county. The population density was 199.1 people per square mile (76.87/kmē), it would be the fourth least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. There were 9210 housing units at an average density of 192.6 per square mile (74.36/kmē). The average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 19.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 40.4% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 105.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105 males. Its population was estimated at 11215 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 9850 White, 1122 Black or African American, 3 American Indian, 129 Asian, 9 Native Hawaiian, and 102 from two or more races.
