Nance County is one of the 93 county of Nebraska, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 4038 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 3550, It is Nebraska's 62nd most populous county. The county comprises an area of 448.04 square miles (1160.42 kmē), of which, 441.32 square miles (1143.01 kmē) of it is land and 6.73 square miles (17.43 kmē) of it is water, it is the 14th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.


As of the census of 2000, there were 4038 people, 1577 households, and 1107 families residing in the county. The population density was 9.1 people per square mile (3.51/kmē), it is 47th most densely populated county in Nebraska. There were 1787 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1.54/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 3.05 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 27.9% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.9 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3550, The racial makeup of the county was 3508 White, 0 Black or African American, 19 American Indian, 1 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 22 from two or more races.
