As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 22504, It is Iowa's 22nd largest by population . It is spread over 17.88 square miles (46.31 sq km), of which, 16.84 square miles (43.62 sq km ) of it is land and 1.05 square miles (2.72 sq km) of it is water, making it Iowa's 17th largest by total area. It is ranks 14 in the size of its inland waterways in Iowa.
