Muhlenberg County is one of the 120 county of Kentucky, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 31839 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 31187, It is 34th most populous county in Kentucky. It covers total area of 479.43 mi˛ (1241.72 sq km), of which, 474.72 square miles (1229.52 sq km) of it is land and 4.71 square miles (12.2 sq km) of it is water, making it Kentucky's 17th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 31839 people in the county, organized into 12357 households, and 9056 families living in the county. The population density was 67.1 people per square mile (25.91/km˛), it is Kentucky's 53rd most densely populated county. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 31187, The racial makeup of the county was 94.06% White, 4.8% Black or African American, 0.13% American Indian, 0.14% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.86% from two or more races.
