Mount Vernon City is a city located in Posey County, Indiana, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The city has a population of 7478 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 6980, It is the 86th largest in terms of population. The city spans an area of 2.53 square miles (6.55 square kilometre), of which, 2.46 square miles (6.37 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 158th largest by size in Indiana.
