Morganton City is one of the city of Burke County, North Carolina, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 17310 people (2000 census). Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 17194, It is 40th most populous in North Carolina. The city extends throughout a territory of 18.16 square miles (47.03 kmē ), making it the 36th largest by size in North Carolina.
