Morgan County is a United States county located in the United States of West Virginia. As of 2000 the population was 14943. The July 2008 population estimate is 16325, giving it the 35th largest population among West Virginia's county. The county extends throughout a territory of 229.67 mi˛ (594.84 sq km ), of which, 228.98 square miles (593.06 sq km) of it is land and 0.68 square miles (1.76 sq km) of it is water, it is the seventh smallest by area in the U.S. state of West Virginia.


As of the census of 2000, there were 14943 people in the county, organized into 6145 households, and 4345 families living in the county. The population density was 65.3 people per square mile (25.21/km˛), it is West Virginia's 23rd most densely populated county. There were 8076 housing units at an average density of 35.3 per square mile (13.63/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.4 persons, and the average family size was 2.84 persons. In the Morgan County, 22.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 6.8% were 18 to 24, 27.3% were 25 to 44, 26.9% were 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 16325, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 16013 White, 159 Black or African American, 25 American Indian, 24 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 102 from two or more races.
