Morgan City City is one of the city of St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 12703. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 11604, making it Louisiana's 38th largest. The city has a total area of 6.03 mi˛ (15.62 sq km), of which, 5.86 square miles (15.18 sq km) of it is land and 0.16 square miles (0.41 sq km) of it is water, it is the 105th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12703 people in the city, organized into 400 households, and 290 families living in the city. The population density was 2166.5 people per square mile (836.49/km˛), it would be the 54th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
