Morehead City Town is a United States town located in the Carteret County, North Carolina, United States. The town has a population of 7691 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the town is 9513, It is the 86th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It has total area of 5.66 mi˛ (14.66 square kilometre), of which, 5.1 square miles (13.21 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.56 square miles (1.45 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 153rd largest by total area among North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 7691 people, 3597 households, and 1984 families residing in the town. The population density was 1507.6 people per square mile (582.09/km˛), giving it the 68th most densely populated town among the North Carolina. There were 4296 housing units at an average density of 842.4 per square mile (325.25/km˛). The average household size was 2.06 persons, and the average family size was 2.73 persons. In the town the population was distributed as follows: 20.2% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 20.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 78.3 males. The median age was 41.1 years, the median age of male residents at 37.9 and the median age of female residents at 43.7. The racial or ethnic makeup of the town was 81.71% White, 13.98% Black or African American, 0.66% American Indian, 0.77% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, 1.72% from two or more races and 1.13% Other races.
