Mora County is a county located in New Mexico, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 5180 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 5052, It is the seventh smallest in terms of population. The county has a total area of 1933.48 mi˛ (5007.69 square kilometre), of which, 1931.1 square miles (5001.53 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.38 square miles (6.16 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the sixth smallest by area in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5180 people in the county, organized into 2017 households, and 1398 families residing in the county. The population density was 2.7 people per square mile (1.04/km˛), it is New Mexico's seventh least densely populated county. There were 2973 housing units at an average density of 1.5 per square mile (0.58/km˛). The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.08. The population's age distribution was 26.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.2 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 5052, The racial makeup of the county was 97.39% White, 0.38% Black or African American, 1.46% American Indian, 0.18% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.57% from two or more races.
