Moore County is one of the 95 county of Tennessee, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 5740. In July 2008, its estimated population was 6195, making it the third least populous county in Tennessee. The county comprises an area of 130.38 sq mi (337.68 sq km), of which, 129.18 square miles (334.57 sq km) of it is land and 1.21 square miles (3.13 sq km) of it is water, making it the second smallest by size in Tennessee.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 5740 residents, 2211 households, and 1687 families in the county. The population density was 44.4 people per square mile (17.14/kmē), it is 27th least densely populated county in Tennessee. There were 2515 housing units at an average density of 19.5 per square mile (7.53/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.95. In the Moore County, 23.3% of the population was under the age of 18, 8.4% were 18 to 24, 26.5% were 25 to 44, 26.3% were 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 6195, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 5933 White, 194 Black or African American, 13 American Indian, 8 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 47 from two or more races.
