Montrose County is a county located in Colorado, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 33432 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 40539, It is 17th most populous county in Colorado. It has total area of 2242.57 sq mi (5808.23 square kilometre), of which, 2240.61 square miles (5803.15 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.96 square miles (5.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 16th largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

In the county the population was spread out, with 26.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.4 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 40539, The racial makeup of the county was 95.58% White, 0.73% Black or African American, 1.43% American Indian, 0.63% Asian, 0.09% Native Hawaiian, and 1.55% from two or more races.
