Montgomery County is a county in the United States of Virginia. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 83629 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 89967, It is the 21st largest county by population in the U.S. state of Virginia. The county encompasses an area of 389.43 sq mi (1008.62 sq km ), of which, 388.22 square miles (1005.49 sq km) of it is land and 1.21 square miles (3.13 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 50th largest by total area among Virginia's county.

The population's age distribution was 17.1% under the age of 18, 31.3% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 110 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.9 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 89967, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 89.33% White, 4.29% Black or African American, 0.19% American Indian, 4.73% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.43% from two or more races.
