Montgomery County is a United States county located in the United States of Pennsylvania. As of 2000 the population was 750097. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 778048, making it Pennsylvania's third largest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 487.45 sq mi (1262.49 kmē), of which, 483.12 square miles (1251.28 kmē) of it is land and 4.33 square miles (11.21 kmē) of it is water, it is the 21st smallest by area in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

As of the census of 2000, there were 750097 people, 286098 households, and 197640 families residing in the county. The population density was 1552.6 people per square mile (599.46/kmē), it would be the fourth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. There were 297434 housing units at an average density of 615.7 per square mile (237.72/kmē). The average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.09 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 778048, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 657773 White, 67062 Black or African American, 1553 American Indian, 41701 Asian, 345 Native Hawaiian, and 9614 from two or more races.
