Montgomery County, Maryland is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 873341 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 950680, It is the largest in terms of population. The county has a total area of 507.14 sq mi (1313.49 kmē), of which, 495.52 square miles (1283.39 kmē) of it is land and 11.63 square miles (30.12 kmē) of it is water, making it the 12th largest by size in Maryland.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 873341 people, 324565 households, and 224225 families living in the county. The population density was 1762.5 people per square mile (680.51/kmē), it is the second most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Maryland. There were 334632 housing units at an average density of 675.3 per square mile (260.73/kmē). The average household size was 2.66 persons, and the average family size was 3.19 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.4% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.1 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 950680, The racial makeup of the county was 636388 White, 160976 Black or African American, 4217 American Indian, 128785 Asian, 1178 Native Hawaiian, and 19136 from two or more races.
