Montgomery County is a county located in Kentucky, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 22554 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 25618, It is the 42nd most populous county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county spans an area of 198.8 mi˛ (514.89 square kilometre), of which, 198.59 square miles (514.35 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Kentucky's 16th smallest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 22554 people in the county, organized into 8902 households, and 6435 families residing in the county. The population density was 113.6 people per square mile (43.86/km˛), it is Kentucky's 21st most densely populated county. There were 9682 housing units at an average density of 48.8 per square mile (18.84/km˛). The average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.8 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 25618, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 24464 White, 826 Black or African American, 40 American Indian, 49 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 231 from two or more races.
