Montgomery County is a county in the United States of Indiana. It is home to over 37629 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 37805, making it the 39th most populous county in Indiana. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 505.34 square miles (1308.82 sq km), of which, 504.51 square miles (1306.67 sq km) of it is land and 0.83 square miles (2.15 sq km) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 37629 people in the county, organized into 14595 households, and 10246 families living in the county. The population density was 74.6 people per square mile (28.8/kmē), it is Indiana's 53rd most densely populated county. There were 15678 housing units at an average density of 31.1 per square mile (12.01/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 people, and the average family size was 2.97 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 26% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 37805, The racial makeup of the county was 36859 White, 361 Black or African American, 85 American Indian, 181 Asian, 13 Native Hawaiian, and 306 from two or more races.
