Montezuma County, Colorado is a county located in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. Montezuma County had an official population of 23830 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 25384, It is the 21st largest county by population in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county spans an area of 2039.97 miē (5283.5 kmē), of which, 2036.63 square miles (5274.85 kmē) of it is land and 3.34 square miles (8.65 kmē) of it is water, it is the 20th largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

The population density was 11.7 people per square mile (4.52/kmē), making it the 29th most densely populated county in Colorado. There were 10497 housing units at an average density of 5.2 per square mile (2.01/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.54 persons, and the average family size was 3.04 persons. In the Montezuma County, 27.5% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.1% were 18 to 24, 26.3% were 25 to 44, 25.3% were 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 25384, The racial makeup of the county was 21130 White, 132 Black or African American, 3491 American Indian, 94 Asian, 29 Native Hawaiian, and 508 from two or more races.
