Montevallo City is one of the city of Shelby County, Alabama, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 4825 inhabitants. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 6061, It is 110th most populous in Alabama. It is spread over 7.6 mi˛ (19.68 square kilometre), of which, 7.56 square miles (19.58 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 178th largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

In the city the population was distributed as follows: 18.3% under the age of 18, 36% from 18 to 24, 21.8% from 25 to 44, 14.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 78.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 72.2 males.
