As per the 2000 census, census designated place has a population of 15728 inhabitants. It is Virginia's 60th largest by population . Its area is just over 6.17 miē (15.98 kmē), of which, 6.04 square miles (15.64 kmē) of it is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 kmē) of it is water, it is the 124th largest in terms of geographical size.
